These magnificent hand-colored lithographs are from Daniel Elliot's monumentally acclaimed work entitled "A Monograph of the Felidae or Family of Cats" and are considered the greatest illustrations of the Cat Family ever produced. They were done by Joseph Wolf who is widely renowned as one of the best (if not the best) animal painters who ever lived.
This magnificent, large folio size work measures about 18 7/8 x 23 1/4 inches and was published from 1878 to 1883 and is considered to be one of the finest color plates on animals ever produced. This work was so expensive to produce, even in 1883, that only about 100 sets were ever made and sold, which accounts for their extreme rarity today.
